Adam's research took him to Jesse's hometown of Hattiesburg.

Adam's research took him across the Atlantic as he retraced Tom & Jesse's Med cruise.

The USS Leyte was anchored just off the coast of Cannes and this pier would have been the docking point for the ferry boats going to and from the ship.
The Carlton hotel was the site of Jesse & Haley's short time together.

Leaving Cannes. This would be the same view that Marty, Tom, Jesse, and the pilots of VF-32 enjoyed as the Leyte sailed off for war games in the Med.
Anchored outside of Livorno, Italy, the USS Leyte received word of the Korean War and was put on full alert.
Adam's research travels took him to the same spot.
Adam's research travels took him off the coast of Sicily in the same waters where VF-32 would lose Ensign Mohring during a landing mishap.
Adam's research took he, Tom, and Chosin Marine veteran Dick Bonelli to the orient.

Adam, Tom, and Dick traveled to North Korea during the production of "Devotion."
This photo shows the flooded landscape as seen from their passenger jet on approach to land in Pyongyang.
Adam drew from his past travels when writing "Devotion," including his time in South Korea with the USO.
Here he stands on the DMZ with veteran friends from the famed "Band of Brothers" of Easy Company.
To research life aboard an aircraft carrier, Adam traveled to San Diego, home of the USS Midway (that appears in "Devotion").
Here, he stands alongside an AD Skyraider, the type of plane that knocked out the Yalu bridges.
The Midway has a tremendous collection of Naval aircraft, including the same type flown by Tom & Jesse - the F4U-4 Corsair.

All flights into North Korea begin with Air Koryo, the official state airline flying Russian passenger aircraft due to trade sanctions.

Tom was treated with great respect by the Korea People's Army hosts.
Here he sits with Adam in a Mercedes that would be his personal transport over the nine day trip.

Accompanying Tom to North Korea was Dick Bonelli, a Chosin Marine who fought with Fox Company. Here Dick and Tom study a crude wartime map of American dead buried in the Chosin. Dick would present this to the Korean People's Army to help with future searches.
The Korean People's Army representives who met with Tom to discuss the search for Jesse's remains. They explained that one of their advance teams was already stranded at the Chosin, due to the flooding, however Marshall Kim Jung Un has ordered his military to "find Jesse Brown."

Any hopes of visiting the Chosin were dashed by the heavy monsoon rains hitting North Korea.
Damage such as this was seen everywhere during Tom's stay.

Tom's team was taken into the countryside to several tourist attractions, including a Buddhist shrine complex.

Tom was always treated with great respect at each spot he visited.
At one military museum, a North Korean senior colonel even saluted him as his car departed.

The cold air blasting from the door was a welcome relief from the July heat.
Eager to meet Tom was a former Russian anti-aircraft gunner who fought in Korea during 1953.
While looking stern in this photo, he was actually an easy going fellow who would later share a beer with Tom.
Staying at the hotel were several Chinese veterans who had fought in Korea.
Despite the language barrier, Tom was easily able to communicate that he was a pilot!
The North Korean "Victorious Fatherland Liberation Museum" dedicated to covering what we know as the "Korean War."
Tom explores the captured American aircraft on display, including several Corsairs and Skyraiders.
CNN reporter Paula Hancock and VOA reporter Steven Herman interview Adam and Tom in front of the Corsair. Their film is incorporated into the videos on this page.

Before leaving Tom met with the Korean People's Army delegation one last time.
Their message was a hopeful one - they would continue searching for Jesse Brown.
